Hello NH music families,

 

In an effort to keep everyone informed and all of us on the same page, I will attempt to send out a weekly message and calendar update to all of you, and post it on the website as well. As always, please contact me at ajulian@nmusd.us if I can be of any assistance.

 

We are well into the Winter Drum Line and Winter Guard performance season. Both ensembles have competition performances this Saturday, 3/14 at Marina High School and Arcadia High School, respectively.

 

Don’t forget that we Spring Forward today, so move your clocks ahead one hour (yes jazz band, just when we started enjoying the dawn’s early light, time to once again roll in to school before sunrise).

 

Newport Harbor High School and Bertrand’s will be hosting the Improve Your Sound Event on Wednesday 3/11, from 4-5:30pm, and select families have been invited to RSVP and attend. If you would like more information about this event or would like to be included, please do not hesitate to email me.

 

Students are currently enrolling in classes for next year, but with the changes in enrollment dates, course title changes, and enrollment procedures, it can be pretty confusing. Please contact me if you have any questions or need assistance with this process.

 

Enrollment information

 

  1.  Any student is welcome to enroll in one of the core concert ensemble classes: Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, Concert Band, and/or Symphony Orchestra. No other co-enrollment is required. The process is a bit confusing, so just sign up for what you feel is appropriate; I will be sending a roster to guidance as well later in the spring to clarify everything.

  2.  To participate in marching band, drum line, AP Music Theory, and/or jazz ensemble, the student must all be enrolled in one of the concert ensembles listed above.

  3.  I would like all first-year color guard members to be dual-enrolled in Dance 1, but we are still trying to iron out some details, so hang tight and just sign up for color guard.

Monday: Late Start schedule; Drum Line Ensemble rehearsal 6-9pm, Winter Guard rehearsal 6-9pm

 

Tuesday: DL Front Ensemble rehearsal, 6-9pm

 

Wednesday: Improve Your Sound Event, 4-5:30pm; Drum Line Ensemble rehearsal 6-9pm; Winter Guard rehearsal 6-9pm

 

Thursday: N/A

 

Friday: Drum Line Ensemble rehearsal 5-8pm

 

Saturday: Drum Line competes at Marina High School; Winter Guard competes at Arcadia High School—itinerary TBA
